The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany is looking for a full-time Syria Engagement Officer (Development Cooperation) (m/f/x)
Key responsibilities:
- Supporting the Department of Development Cooperation (Entwicklungszusammenarbeit, EZ) at the Embassy, particularly in regard to the non-humanitarian support to Syria (development cooperation/early recovery/resilience), as well as its aspects pertaining to stabilization and humanitarian aid. This includes assistance with fundamental sectoral and institutional matters, in addition to performing project-related tasks (such as examining project proposals, writing reviews/opinions/reports, participating in meetings with UN and non-governmental organizations, communicating with implementing partners of German assistance programs among other tasks.)
- Monitoring the situation from a development policy standpoint and compiling background information pertinent to development policy
- Assuming administrative activities, as well as preparing meetings and delegation trips.
- Coordinating and attending meetings with Syrian authorities and performing translation duties for the benefit of the EZ team.
Key Qualifications:
University degree in International Relations, Peace & Conflict Studies, Management or a related field
Prior professional experience in the field of development cooperation
Good geographical and political knowledge of Syria are a necessity
Fluent knowledge of English and Arabic, in spoken and written forms - knowledge of the German language is desirable
Good team spirit, and a pragmatic and solution-oriented approach to the tasks at hand
Advanced communication skills, and an adequate representation of the concerns relevant to the field of responsibility in oral and written forms, in coordination with the team
Readiness to attend particular events, even outside of regular working hours
Clean criminal record (no prior convictions)
